Clothes Closet

Come one, come all! February 28th, starting at 5:00 pm.  We need your help in the helping of others. We will have a work party on February 28th  to sort and hang clothes for the April 14th extravaganza!

The purpose of the Clothes Closet is to glorify or Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by serving others who have an Earthly need. “He who oppresses the poor taunts his Maker, but he who is gracious to the needy honors Him.”
Proverbs 14:31 (NASB)

Although the idea of the Clothes Closet originated with the Seekers Sunday School Class, participation is open to anyone who would like to volunteer. We meet on a regular basis to organize and maintain the Clothes Closet goods in the church.

There are two planned giveaway events during the year – one in the spring, and one in the fall. Specific dates for these events are posted in advance on this website and in the bulletin. Individuals and families may also shop in the Clothes Closet during normal hours of church operation with a member of the Clothes Closet team or designee present.

We believe the Bible is the Word of God.

We believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as payment for our sins, and rose from the dead on the third day. We believe that the only way a person can go to Heaven when he dies is to first place his faith in the payment that Jesus Christ provided with His shed blood on the cross. Dunbar First Baptist Church is just that, a Baptist church. Once a person is saved by putting his faith in Jesus, we are Commanded to be baptized by immersion to show to others what took place when we trusted Christ; we do this in obedience, not to save us but to show that we have been saved. We believe in participating in the Lord’s Supper (Communion) on a regular basis to remember the payment Jesus made for us and to express our love to Him for that payment. The Lord’s Supper is not kept to take us to Heaven but to thank Jesus for His sacrifice.

We believe that the Bible is what it claims to be: The Word of God.

We take instruction from the Bible literally; we believe what it is actually saying, not that it is an allegory or a fable. We take instruction from the Bible in the areas of life and faith and go to it for the answers to life. In a day when opinion polls and media agendas steer our social conscience, we believe that we should first seek God’s opinion on any subject before forming our own.

Annual Event

The Gospel Harmony Boys are one of America's finest Southern Gospel Quartets, and have been presenting the Gospel in song since 1952 all across this great country in churches, auditoriums, fairs, and festivals. After all this, by God's grace, we're still going strong! Each year, Dunbar First Baptist Church is blessed to host the Gospel Harmony Boys, usually during the late winter.

Santa’s Workshop

“…Seeing Christ at Christmas has made a significant impact on my life. In the fall of 1982, I decided to make a wormy chestnut roll top desk and give it to a pastor at Christmas. I felt as if I was one of Santa’s Elves working in his little workshop! I worked on the project in the garage of our log home during the early […]

Idiom Of Hand

Well, we have had a great and challenging time with the series around the idiom “heaven”. Lives were changed thru these sermons! God has laid on my heart to do a series of sermons on the idiom of “hand”. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “idiom” as an expression that cannot be understood from the meanings of its separate words but that has a separate meaning of its own: […]

From the heart of Preacher Jack

I was recently touched by having the congregation at Dunbar First Baptist share some idioms in our culture of language. It was very interesting to learn how we communicate using idioms. Some examples were: “It’s raining cats and dogs”; “Actions speak louder than words”; “At the drop of a hat”; “Best thing since sliced bread”; “Cost an arm and a leg”; “Cry over spilt milk” and […]
